Resident Life

Work

Work

Several of our Residents are employed in the local community, and have been recognized by their employers as outstanding employees of the year – more than a few years in a row!  They enjoy being a part of their community and thriving as full or part-time employees.

School

The Village is located within 3 miles of College of the Mainland where two of our residents have attended classes.  One resident completed his technology certification and for the past several years he has had gainful employment at Kohls.

Access to local educational facilities has allowed our Residents to attend classes and enhance their skills to be competitive in the workplace.

In addition The Village has established relationships with area High Schools and even local Universities where we partner to provide healthy life styles and other individualized skills training.

Village Residents love to play bingo, dominoes, participate in numerous arts and crafts projects, have karaoke nights, and the Residents look forward to monthly dances, and Bible studies.

There are pet therapy groups who bring their animals for the Residents to “love on”, and they look forward to other activities and socialization with special outings to the Astros games, Houston Rodeo and Galveston County Rodeo, as well as Wings Over Houston and a wide variety of other leisure activities.

The Independence Village is located on Highway 3 North, just two blocks south of Mainland Medical center.  Our Village is for developmentally disabled adults, and it provides a safe, caring environment that includes socialization and life-skills training, as well as a variety of leisure activities to stimulate each Resident.
